Environmental Design
The Department of Environmental Design offers Bachelor’s degree programs in Architecture and Interior Design, Landscape Architecture since 1997. In addition, research-oriented graduate programs are offered, leading to Master’s degree.
In teaching, research and practice, we are committed to the integration of numerous disciplines to promote outstanding designs that involve architecture, urban planning, landscape, historic preservation, and parametric design. We also provide rigorous theoretical training and studio experiences that encourage imagination and critical thinking, as well as the ability of the Integrated design and engineering practice in order to prepare our graduates for urban and rural construction.
History:
The Department was formerly known as Environmental Art Design, the first undergraduate enrollment began in 1997. The Department officially changed the name from Environmental Art Design to Environmental Design according to the Ministry of Education undergraduate program directory adjustment in 2012. Up to now, 1112 students have graduated from our program. At present, 251 undergraduate students and 15 graduate students are studying in the Department of Environmental Design.
Facilities:
The Department has a research center (the Cultural Heritage Protection and Urban-Rural Cultural Construction Research Center), a lab (Digital & Intelligent Space Design Laboratory), and a workshop (the Material & Structure workshop). We have signed the cooperation agreement with the American famous company Bentley, which is one of the earliest firm focusing on the whole information system design in China. In addition, the Department has 8 internship firms which provides design and research opportunities for our graduate and undergraduate students, including project consultation, project design, scientific research on design, digital design, and community service, etc..

Faculty:
There are 15 full-time faculty members in the Department of Environmental Design. They received they Master’s degrees and Doctorate in the field of architectural design, art design, landscape architecture design and urban planning, and historic preservation. They all graduated from the top design graduate schools in China and abroad.
